Older homes in town
Near downtown and along Arendell Avenue there are early- and mid-1900s houses with wood siding, porches, tall windows and generations of paint. These homes need careful prep before exterior painting: scraping loose paint, priming bare wood, re-glazing and caulking around windows, and replacing rotted sills and porch parts through carpentry repairs. Older paint may contain lead, so we talk about that before any sanding or scraping.
Inside, plaster walls and older drywall usually need crack repair through our drywall work before interior painting.
Brick ranches and newer neighborhoods
Zebulon has a lot of brick ranches from the 1960s and 1970s, plus newer vinyl-sided homes in subdivisions around town. On brick homes the work is mostly wood trim, fascia, soffits and doors. On newer homes, it's usually interior repaints, power washing to remove mildew and red clay, and siding repairs.
Wind, sun and open land
The land around Zebulon is flatter and more open than western Wake, so houses get more wind and full sun. Summer storms loosen and crack vinyl siding, and dark paint colors fade quickly on south- and west-facing walls.
