What is micro cement?

Micro cement is a thin cement-based coating, usually just a few millimeters thick, that's troweled on by hand in several layers and then sealed. The result is a smooth, continuous surface with no grout lines, with the soft, natural look of concrete. Because it's so thin, it can often be applied over existing tile, concrete, drywall or plaster, which can save you the cost and mess of tearing everything out.

Not many contractors in the area do it, and it's easy to get wrong. Mixing, layer thickness, timing between coats and sealing all have to be right. That's the part we're good at.

Where micro cement works

  • Floors: kitchens, living areas, entryways and bathrooms
  • Walls: feature walls, fireplaces and stairwells
  • Showers and bathrooms: seamless walls with no grout lines to scrub, installed over a proper waterproofing layer
  • Countertops and vanities: refacing existing counters with a modern finish

It pairs well with a bathroom or kitchen remodel, or as a stand-alone update to a dated tile floor.

Our process, step by step

  1. Site visit. We check the existing surface. It needs to be solid, with no loose tile, cracks that move or moisture problems.
  2. Surface prep. We clean, degrease, repair and level the surface. Grout lines are filled and loose areas are fixed.
  3. Primer and mesh. A bonding primer goes on. Where needed, reinforcing mesh is added to reduce cracking.
  4. Base coats. Coarser base layers build strength and fill the surface.
  5. Finish coats. Finer layers are troweled on to create the final texture and color, then sanded between coats.
  6. Seal. Multiple coats of sealer protect against water, stains and wear. Wet areas get extra attention.
  7. Cure and walkthrough. We go over care and cure times with you before the space goes back into use.

Prep and materials

Micro cement is only as good as what's under it. Most failures come from poor prep: applying over loose tile, skipping the primer, or rushing coats before they're ready. We use a complete micro cement system, with primer, base, finish and sealer designed to work together, rather than mixing products from different sources. In showers, waterproofing comes first.

Why quality matters with micro cement

This is hand work. Each layer is troweled by hand, and the finished look depends on the skill of the person holding the trowel. We take on fewer projects so we can give each one the time it needs, and the owner is on the job from prep to sealing.

Warranty

Micro cement applications are covered by our 1-year workmanship warranty. We'll explain how to care for the surface and how often the sealer should be refreshed so it keeps looking right.

Micro Cement FAQ

Can micro cement go over existing tile?

Often, yes. If the tile is solidly bonded and the floor or wall isn't moving, we fill the grout lines, prime and apply micro cement right over it. We'll check the surface at the site visit and tell you honestly if it's a good candidate.

Is micro cement waterproof enough for a shower?

Sealed micro cement is water resistant, and in showers it's installed over a dedicated waterproofing layer. Proper sealing and maintenance are what keep it performing in wet areas.

How long does micro cement take?

Most projects take several days because each layer needs time to dry before the next one goes on, plus sealing and cure time. A single bathroom is usually less than a week. Your estimate will include the timeline.

How do I clean micro cement?

Use warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive pads. The sealer should be refreshed periodically depending on traffic, and we'll explain what to expect.
